No Space

By Ruben Arrazate —

Haven't you been told on more than one occasion: “I'm sorry, but we don't have space for you?”

At your work place? “Unfortunately, we do not have a position for you in my company”.

In sports? “There is no space for you on the team”. How about in love? “There is no space in my heart for you”. One of the saddest phrases on Earth is: “There is no place for you”.

Jesus knew the sound of these words, even when he was still in Mary's womb, when the inn keeper said: “There is no place for you”. And she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in clothes and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn”, Luke 2:7 NIV.

When the residents of his village tried to stone him, wasn't the same phrase used? “We don't want prophets in this town”. (Luke 4:28-30 NIV).

When the religious leaders hanged him on the cross, wasn't it the same phrase of rejection? “There is no place for you in this world”. (Luke 23:20-24 NIV). Today, Jesus receives the same treatment; he goes from heart to heart asking to let him enter, but most of the time he has to listen to the same words: “There is no place for you”.

However, occasionally he is welcomed, and opens the door of his heart and invites Him to enter. And to that person Jesus makes this great promise: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms…” John 14:1-2 NIV.

He says: “I have plenty of space for you”. What an extraordinary promise! We make room in our heart for him, and he makes space for us in his home.

Make the decision this Christmas and every day of the year, to have space for him in your heart, because he always has space for you.

Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him”. John 14:23 NIV.
