Eagles shut out Jal 36-0 last week

The Van Horn Eagles battled the Jal Panthers last Friday and came home with a convincing victory, 36-0.

Despite playing in heavy rain, the Eagles made some great plays on both sides of the ball. The Eagles started off the night recovering the onside kick on the opening kickoff and marched the ball down the field for a touchdown.

Defensively, the Eagles capitalized on three takeaways. Sam Rivera blasted the momentum by returning an interception 85 yards for a Van Horn touchdown. A few drives later, Fabian Baeza continued the defense onslaught by returning a Panther fumble for another Eagle touchdown.

Offensively, Van Horn proved to be too much for the Panthers as four different players scored for the Eagles.

Despite the slippery conditions, Baeza threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one. Luis Escajeda joined Baeza with a rushing touchdown of his own after a convincing drive. Jeremy Virdell and Alex Urias were on the receiving end of Baeza’s touchdown passes securing the Eagle’s second victory of the season.
