67th Annual Culberson County Livestock Show announced

Reintroducing VHHS Future Farmers of America participation

By Charlie Wilson CCAISD

As you know, one of the biggest changes to the Van Horn Schools is the addition of an AgriScience program and a FFA Chapter. Our reasons for bringing FFA back to Van Horn is leadership aspects of the organization, and stock show participation. The last time FFA was in Van Horn, was approximately 1980. We have enjoyed tremendous community and administrative support for this program. The FFA will be involved in the Culberson County Livestock Show for the rst time in many years. This has been very exciting for Lainie Koch and I, and all of the Livestock Board members have made me feel right at home. We have several FFA members showing under our banner this year with both animal projects and ag mechanic projects. FFA members have the same rules to abide by that are in place. They must participate in cleanup. They must also attend meetings and participate in various activities to earn points for eligibility. FFA and 4-H have a very good relationship. If 4-H members need additional points they can participate in an FFA activity to earn those points, and FFA members may also use 4-H points for their eligibility. It is a cooperation that takes place between two great organizations to build our young people into the leaders of tomorrow.

Lane Brewster, President of the Livestock Association sent noti cation that the sale will be on, Saturday, January 16. The Buyer’s BBQ will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the sale will follow at 6:00 p.m. He encourages everyone to watch the youth show their animals Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. A dance will begin at 9:00 p.m. All activities located at the Van Horn Community Center area, 400 Jones St. in Van Horn.
