Lady Eagles compete at district

The Lady Eagles finished the second round of district play with wins over Fort Hancock and Anthony. The Eagles were in a tough battle with the Lady Mustangs, but held off their fourth quarter rally. FR Kristianne Virdell dove for a loose ball in the crucial final seconds of the game to secure the 34-31 win.

The victory over Fort Hancock forced a must win game against Anthony for the district championship. The ladies were up for the challenge from the opening tip off, and jumped out to a 7 point lead and never looked back. The Lady Eagles racked up 16 steals against the Wildcats. Renee Rivera and Jadein Tarango were a force to be reckoned with as they set the tone defensively. Clare Mendez led all scorers with 14 points followed by JadeinTarango with 8 points of her own. The win secured a second consecutive district championship for the girls.

The Lady Eagles host Monterrey Tech tomorrow as they look to finish strong in district play.   Fans, you do make a difference, please come out and support our girls.

Eagles battle to stay in competition

On Tuesday, January 26 the Anthony Wildcats came to Van Horn to play the Eagles. This was a district game. It was a hard fought game and the Eagle came up short, 70–43. The leading scorers for the Eagles were Rafael Rodriguez and Alex Urias each with 11 points respectfully. The Eagles play at home Friday night against DiVinci, another district foe. Come out and support the Eagles. In other action the Junior Varsity boys defeated the Anthony Wildcats by a score of 44-23. The JV boys are 4-0 in district. Their next game is next Tuesday against Fort Hancock. Come out and support the JV.
