Dr. Koning’s PowerPoint presentation with provide an interesting overview of the different habitats of the Chihuahuan Desert in the Desert Southwest.   The City of El Paso is located within the Chihuahuan Desert, one of the most biologically diverse deserts in the world.

Protecting desert habitats is important to combating climate change as desert plants help to capture CO2 gases from the atmosphere in a harsh environment where few plants can survive.   Calling attention to this threat to our civilization Academy Awards Best Actor Leonardo DeCaprio said during his acceptance speech last month “Climate change is real. It is happening right now, it is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”
