John Thomas Clough lived a long and meaningful life, while serving God, family and community.  His life’s journey began with his birth November 2, 1940, in Cortland, New York to his loving parents, Dick and Ruth Clough.  John had two older brothers, Don and Doug, whom he cherished dearly.  At the age of four, John’s family moved from New York, and eventually settled in Van Horn, Texas.

John attended Texas Tech University, and graduated with a Bachelor in Civil Engineering.  After graduating, John spent the next 50 years as a successful engineer, beginning in Kansas City, Missouri in 1963, working there until he moved to Dallas in 1966, and finally relocating to the little suburb on the north-west side of Houston, called Cypress, in 1971.  Along the way he continued to improve his knowledge and experience, designing metal buildings, managing engineering and drafting departments, at various companies, and eventually opening his business where he would provide not just the design and calculations, but would furnish the buildings and structures as well.  This he did successfully for more than 20 years.  In 2012, when John was diagnosed with cancer, he stopped accepting new work, and he officially closed his business and retired in 2013.

John was dedicated in his faith, serving God in many ways.  His service included various ministries at Cypress United Methodist Church over the course of many years.  One of the most meaningful ministries he served in last was the Kairos prison ministries at the Darrington Unit where over the course of many years, he touched many lives.

John very deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He enjoyed and loved them all dearly.  Family was important to John, and was always willing to share his thoughts and wisdom.  He participated in activities such as coaching in little league and basketball, and working with the neighborhood swim team each summer without fail.

Following a heritage from his father and grandfather, John was a member of the Van Horn Volunteer Fire Department while in high school in the 1950’s, and served in the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Services District for many years.  Additionally, John served in the Rotary Club and on the water board for his community.
