Engle is lone finalist at Valentine ISD

During a regular school board meeting, Trustees named Debbie Engle the lone finalist for Superintendent of the Valentine Independent School District.  The Board chose to interview the top five of fifteen applicants brought to them by retiring superintendent Doug Cook.  Mr. Cook conducted the application process including reference checks and answering any questions board members had of the applicants.

Cook, who has been with VISD for seven years said, “Karen and I feel very fortunate that we found Valentine and stayed here until I retired,” adding, “the community has been amazing to be part of.”  Some requirements to be met to be eligible for the job including living in the district, having a Commercial Driver’s License, (CDL), to drive the school buses as needed, and attendance at all school activities.

Engle is currently employed with Culberson County-Allamoore ISD as Director of Special Programing and has recent experience with the district as Interim Superintendent.  “I am super excited about the job and I know I am going to love being in Valentine,” said Engle.

Board President Bill Miller said, “All five applicants interviewed where very qualified but it was Mrs. Engle’s enthusiasm to work in our district that sold us.”

State law requires a 1 day waiting period after the finalist is chosen before officially appointing a superintendent and executing a contract.
