A convicted sex offender facing a felony abduction charge involving a missing 16-year-old Burlington female was arrested here Thursday.

William Geoffrey Thacker, 27, was apprehended around 1 p.m. in Van Horn, after crashing during a high-speed chase on Interstate 10, Burlington police said.

Krystian Stuart was found with Thacker and treated at a hospital for minor injuries, police said.  She is in the safe keeping of the Culberson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas until arrangements can be made to return her to North Carolina, police said.

Burlington police first announced Krystian was missing around 5 p.m. May 23.  Krystian had last been seen in the parking lot of the Dollar General at 600 Rauhut St. in Burlington.

The chase began after a Texas trooper looked up the North Carolina license plate of Thacker’s vehicle and determined he was wanted, Burlington police said.  Culberson County Sheriff Oscar Carrillo said the trooper had caught Thacker speeding.

Law enforcement officials tried to shoot out Thacker’s tires and ultimately rammed his vehicle to stop the nine-mile chase, Sheriff Carrillo said.  Texas Rangers are now involved in the investigation due to the law enforcement gunfire, Carrillo added.

Thacker will be extradited to North Carolina to face the felony abduction of children charge once his charges in Texas are resolved, police said. No bond information was available as of Thursday afternoon.

As of press time, Sheriff Carrillo added that the young woman has been returned to her family and Thacker remains in Hudspeth County Jail facing Felony Evading law enforcement charges.
