Washington, D.C. – Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled that Texas’ discriminatory voter ID law violates the Voting Rights Act and cannot be enforced in the upcoming presidential election.
ACS President Caroline Fredrickson made the following statement:
“Today’s ruling is a major victory for voting rights in America,” said ACS President Caroline Fredrickson. “Voter ID laws are a ruse, only used to deny the right to vote to minorities, low-income citizens, the elderly and other vulnerable populations. We laud the Fifth Circuit’s ruling that the Texas voter ID law unfairly discriminates against minority voters.”
