During the spring, the Gifted and Talented program at Van Horn Schools participated in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park poster contest.  It was to celebrate the National Park Services’100th birthday and students were asked to draw what the park would look like in the next 100 years through their artwork.

All poster submissions had to be on at least an 8 1/2” x 11” poster board or paper.  Suggested media was crayons, pastels, acrylic, color pencils, markers, pen and ink or paint.

One of our local students, Amy Garcia, daughter of Esther and Johnny Garcia, won Honorable Mention. She received a certificate and a gift card from park Superintendent, Eric Brunnemann.  Her work of art will be in the exhibit, “A Century of Inspiration” at the Carlsbad Museum and Arts Center in Carlsbad New Mexico.
