TEEX Adopts PEC H2S – Hydrogen Sulfide – Clear Training Program

By Chris Corola, Associated Press

The Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is offering the PEC Safety H2S (Hydrogen Sulfide) Clear 16-hour train-the-trainer course for both in-house and independent instructors, as well as for individuals in need of a safety competency in hydrogen sulfide gas. PEC H2S Clear is a 4-hour “end-user” safety course designed to meet the current classroom requirements of ANSI Z390.1 and new ANSI requirements coming in 2016.

TEEX has partnered with PEC Safety (PEC) to offer the H2S Clear training program, which has become the preferred hydrogen sulfide training program required by multiple owner/operators before employees or contractor workers are eligible to work on-site.

Participants in the trainer development course will receive information specific to H2S routes of exposure, the proper selection, use, and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment, best practices linked to workplace warnings, and emergency response in the event of exposure. Hundreds of instructors around the country have already become authorized to provide PEC H2S Clear, and thousands of students have already been trained.

“We are excited to partner with such a renowned institution like TEEX to deliver vital H2S knowledge to workers, in turn helping them get home safely to their families,” said Colby Lane, CEO of PEC.

Upon successful completion of the standardized curriculum and testing in PEC H2S Clear, students will be issued an ID card that displays their photo, name, company name, and a bar code that links to their unique training record.

All PEC HS Clear training records are validated and automatically entered into the PEC training database through which owner/clients can verify student training history. Additionally, students will have access to the PEC mobile app, which includes a digital ID card and H2S reference material. The PEC mobile app is available for iOS and Android devices.
