What if

By Pastor Rodney Tilley

Awhile back we were eating in a local Pizza establishment and they had the usual children’s placemats with cartoons and puzzles to keep the children entertained while you wait for your pizza. It is a good thing for it keeps you from being bored while waiting for your meal, and this week’s circular at the table was kind of interesting and was entitled “What if.”

“What if you could have a wild animal for a pet; what would you choose and why?

“What if you had a million dollars, how would you spend it?”

“What if you were president for a day, what would you do?”

“What if you could travel back in time; when and where would you go?

And the list goes on, but I think you get the picture. But honestly it did get me to thinking, and it was fun as my wife and I discussed the “what ifs” in our lives. I decided if I had a wild animal pet, it would be a skunk, this is without the scent, but it would give kids a really good scare. If I had a millions dollars I would buy a coffeehouse, sit around, talk, and drink free espresso with my friends. I am almost there for I do have the coffeehouse but the free part is not anywhere in sight at the moment- sorry. If I could travel back in time, I would go to Constantinople and meet Constantine. And if I were President for a day, I would dismiss Congress and declare myself a dictator, buy some fake medals and get me a hat, unique only to me (Dictators always wear strange hats), and declare the government obsolete.

But today, since I am not a dictator, but only a dreamer, I would like to make my own “what if” list, since the other “what if” list is just dust in the wind.

“What if you could live for ever, for eternity, where do you want to go live?”

“What if you could be content and at peace for the rest of your life, to whom would you thank?”

“What if you could ask and totally see your life changed, would you?”

“What if you could know that all your sins would be forgiven, would you even ask?”

“What if you could speak to the creator of the universe, what would you say?”

I have a thousand “what if” questions, but today I will ask you just a few more important questions, “What if you knew that the answers to your questions were true, what would be your response?”

“What if……God heard everything you just said? What if? Well he has and he wants you to be honest with him and have no ifs, ands, or buts. He wants you to be a part of all that he is and be all that you can be in Him. Give Jesus your life for He has already given you his and that is no, “what if.” For more information on the goodness of God, please call: Pastor Tilley at 432-207-0015.
