Lady Eagles Volleyball updates

By Rob Segura

The Lady Eagles have been more than busy lately with a match against the Balmorhea Lady Bears and tournament play.  The Lady Eagles Varsity and Junior Varsity teams seemed to struggle with their match against the Lady Bears.  The Varsity was still able to take the Lady Bears down in 3 sets but the JV fell short.  The Lady Eagles are still working hard as Coach Urias indicated.  Her response to the game against Balmorhea was that of a true champion, “We look ahead to the weekend as we enter our last tournament of the season”.  Moving on and learning is a true representation of this mighty Lady Eagles Volleyball team.

The Varsity Volleyball Team also traveled to Crane for the Lady Bird Invitational.  Set up in pool play, the Lady Eagles matched up against Buena Vista, Big Lake and Fort Davis.  The Lady Eagles took down all 3 teams in their pool and moved on to the Championship bracket for Saturday play.  Coach Urias said, “We had much better ball movement this time around. However, we still need to continue to raise the bar”.  Urias continues, “They had some errors against Sonora early on but put up a great fight.  Our blocking and hitting was on but our service errors got us in the end.  Our communication really clicked when we came up against Crane.  We battled to the very end and played our best match this season. However, we faced several service errors in the end and we couldn’t finish.  However, we have much to be proud of, still.  Congrats to Calise Cottrell, Senior, on being selected as All-Tournament.” Coach Urias has expressed the continued great play of Calise as she continues to show strength and leadership on the court.

The girls held their own and put up a fight against Pecos last night ultimately losing in 3games.  Scores not available as of press time.
