Obituaries – Lottie Evans Woods

Lottie Virginia Evans Woods passed from this life into the everlasting arms of Jesus on September 11. She was born on July 9, 1917, in El Paso.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Blackie (Beary) Woods.  Her parents were Wertie and Paul Evans, and her siblings were Frances Evans Carpenter and Paul Evans, Jr.  Lottie was a life-long resident of the Van Horn area.

She is survived by children Beary Woods, Jr. of Van Horn, Chance Hart of Amarillo, Betty and Tim Woods of Chico, Texas, Judy and Monte Roach of  Lubbock, and Sue and John Paul Woods of Sandpoint, Idaho.  Grandchildren are Kipp Hart of Placentia, California, Kim Hart Maple of Albuquerque, Tracey Woods of Benbrook, Texas, Britt Woods of Bridgeport, Texas, Bobby Woods of N. Richland Hills, Texas, Jett Woods of Saginaw, Texas, David Fritts of Dublin, Texas, Morris Woods, Zillah of Washington, and Royce Woods of Van Horn.  Lottie is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

She strived for excellence in her endeavors as a homemaker, gardener, quilter, doll maker, and became a published author at the age of 98 writing “Memories of a Ranch Wife”, (exerts of the book in this edition of The Advocate).  At various times she was an Image Consultant, census taker, was selected for a scene in a movie, president of 20th Century Club, and Sunday school teacher.  She was a life-long member of Bloys Camp Meeting and First Baptist Church.

Memorial celebration will be at the First Baptist Church of Van Horn, on Saturday, September 17, at 10:00 a.m.  Her preference would be donations to Bloys Camp Meeting or the First Baptist Church of Van Horn, in lieu of flowers.
