Eagles Fall to Anthony

By Adrian J. Norman

The Van Horn Eagles traveled to Anthony on Friday to square off with the Wildcats in a non-district matchup. When the final buzzer sounded, the Eagles were defeated by a score of 34-14. The loss moved the team to a 1-3 regular season record.

Coach Brock Tyrrell said, “We came out and got on the board first, but failed to capitalize on some key turnovers our defense got us. There is a lot of season left, a lot of work to be done, and a lot of success coming for the Van Horn Eagles.”

The defense caused a fumble and intercepted the quarterback early in first quarter, but the explosive offense struggled to move the ball and get into a rhythm. SR WR Luis Escajeda scored on a 71 yard pass from SR QB Rafael Rodriguez for the Eagles’ first score, and the two connected again for the two-point conversion.

Rodriguez ended the night passing 9/28, for 85 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Escajeda lead all receivers with 7 catches for 131 yards, and 2 touchdowns. The defense was anchored by Alex Urias, who had 3 tackles, 6 assists, and an interception.

The Eagles will travel to Seagraves this Friday as they begin to wrap up non-district play. Fans are encouraged to make the trip and support the team as they look to snap the losing streak and get back on track. Kickoff is slated for 7:30pm, see you at the game. Go Eagles!
