Bunkie M. Rutledge

Bunkie M. Rutledge, age 85, went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2016 in Brackettville, Texas. He was born June 6, 1931 in Marathon, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Lee Roy Rutledge and Marjorie Robbins Shackelford, Son Randall Rutledge, Grandson, Douglas Rutledge and brother, Lee Roy Rutledge. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He received his Bachelors and Master degree from Sul Ross State University. Mr. Rutledge was employed by Culberson County ISD as a coach, teacher and principal. He was also Tax Assessor and collector for Culberson County. He also served as Mayor of Van Horn, Texas. And was a Special Sheriff Deputy. He lived in Van Horn, Alpine and Brackettville, Texas. His hobbies included, basketball, golf, gardening and hunting. He served as a Mason for more than 50 years and was a Past Master Mason.      

  Left to cherish his memory is his wife Carolyn Cooley Rutledge, Sons, Roy and wife Michelle Rutledge, Jon and wife Patsy Rutledge. Daughter, Karen and husband Cary Austin. Brother, Bill and Wife Isabel Shackelford. Grandchildren, Allison and Husband Toby Corralez, Sam Austin, Erin Rutledge, Whitney Rutledge, Mason Rutledge and Courtney Rutledge. Great-Grandchildren, Alyssa, Annika, Sophia Corralez.
