Burt was a Veteran of the Second World War and served in the Pacific Theater on the USS Lander an Auxiliary Personnel Attack ship. Seaman Brownfield was assigned to the Lander’s First Division as the driver of one of the ship’s landing craft.

Burt was a farmer and rancher in Dell City, Texas before moving with his family to Van Horn in 1970. Dad was a teacher at Van Horn School for many years and retired from that profession. However, he was first and always a cowboy and was able to continue that occupation as a rancher on the Green River Ranch South of Van Horn. He always enjoyed being part of the Grand Entry Procession at numerous rodeos over the years with his many cowboy friends.

Burt passed away quietly at the Culberson Hospital surrounded by friends, family and the wonderful staff at that excellent facility. Burt and his family wish to express our profound gratitude for the love and care he received at the hospital while he dealt with the effects of a stroke he suffered last May.
