Valentine Senior, Elvis Tarango, started his 2017 track season with a 4th place finish in the 100 meters and a second place finish in the 200 meters at the 73rd annual Fort Stockton Panther Relays, Saturday, February 18th. Tarango competed in Division I against athletes from Fort Stockton, Sonora, Pecos, Andrews, Kermit, Midland Christian, and other 2A, 3A, and 4A schools from this area.

Tarango ran an 11.65 in the 100 meters and a 23.72 in the 200 meters. Both times were well off his best times from last year when he qualified to the state meet in both events. His focus has been on powerlifting since that competition started in January and he will continue to work on both sports for the next few weeks as it appears he has a good chance to earn his way to the state powerlifting meet in Abilene on March 25th.

Tarango will continue to compete, every other week, in track through March and he will then focus on trying to win his way back to the state track meet in May. This week, February 25th, he will compete in powerlifting in Pecos and his next track meet will be on March 3rd in Sanderson.
