Dear Tia

I am tired of seeing my daughter work long hours, day in and day out, while her lazy husband stays home and does absolutely nothing.  He supposedly hurt his back about 10 years ago and has milked his injury since then to avoid not only going to work, but as an excuse to not do anything to help around the house either.  Ironically, he is not too hurt to go out with his friends at least once a week and get plastered.   My poor daughter looks so tired and never has the energy to do anything but work. To top it off, on her days off she does laundry and clean house!  How do I get my daughter to see what a worthless man she is married to?

Sick and Tired

Dear Sick,

Your daughter must have very low self-esteem to stay in such a one-sided relationship, if you can call it that.  As much as you would like to blame her sorry-excuse-of-a-man, your daughter is just as much to blame for allowing him to treat her as he does.  I believe the word is “enabler.”  If your daughter continues to support her parasite husband, there is nothing you can do to stop her.  Short of putting a hit out on the scumbag, your daughter has all the power to kick his lazy butt out and start taking care of herself, but she has to be the one to make that decision.  In the meantime, keep your nose out of their business– the more you criticize the prince, the more your daughter will defend him.  Good luck!
