Dear Tia,
I am totally grossed out! I live in an apartment with thin walls, and there is a man who lives in the next apartment, who by the sounds of it, watches porn quite often. I am pretty sure that he knows I am next door, but apparently he doesn’t care. Otherwise, my neighbor is a very nice man, well respected in the community. How do I get him to turn the volume down so that I don’t have to listen to hours of inappropriate sound effects from next door? I don’t want to embarrass him, but what are my options?

It sounds as though your neighbor may be very aware that you are within hearing distance of his videos, and doesn’t care or is turning up the volume intentionally. Since you express a desire to address this issue in a civilized manner, I assume you do not wish to email his wife with an audio recording of his favorite Netflix movie. Instead, you could present him with a set of headphones and tell him that although you don’t wish to complain, it is difficult for you to concentrate on your tasks when he is watching his “movies.” If you continue to be subjected to the objectionable sounds after that, you can be assured that he wants you to hear, and it may be time to get your hubby involved.
