By Lisa Morton

Desert Mountain AHEC teamed up with presenters Dr. Alozie from Texas Tech Paul L. Foster School of Medicine and Josh Moreno from Texas Tech Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing as well as Clint ISDs Mountain View Health Professions Academy in bringing Ready Set Go… on the Road to Van Horn TX last week.

Van Horn, Valentine, Marfa, and Sierra Blanca schools were invited to attend the career fair hosted by CCAISD at Karen D. Young Auditorium.  Presentation speakers where Ogechika Alozie, M.D., M.P.H., C.P.H.I.M.S. and Chief Clinical Informatics Officer, Paul L. Foster, School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center of El Paso.

The students had the opportunity to learn what it takes to go to college and the benefits of choosing a career in the health care field. They also learned about the future in digital health care and how they may be contributors one day. Participants were then divided in to 3 groups and were rotated through 3 hands-on activities: Suturing Workshop, Phlebotomy (blood drawing) workshop and Vital Signs and CPR.

CCAISD has been a gracious host to area rural schools for such events and participation and interest was good and the influence on our students apparent.
