New Van Horn Rural Health Clinic opening delayed

By Lisa Morton

The much-anticipated opening of the new, Van Horn Rural Health Clinic has been delayed because of litigation on the part of both the Culberson County Hospital District Board and the contractor, Jerry Reiner and his company Ameriway.

The dispute arose from Ameriway’s numerous delays and failure to complete the construction of the new clinic as agreed.  Since Ameriway’s contract ended on January 31, 2018, the board decided to terminate their contract with Ameriway, exclude them from the job site and to take possession of all materials, tools, and construction equipment remaining on the clinic property.

The board also voted unanimously to authorize their attorney, Henry Paoli, to notify the bonding company that they consider Ameriway to be in breach of contract and of their intention to terminate their contract.

In other action, the board called for the election of three directors at the 2018 election on Saturday, May 5, 2018, for members whose terms are up, Gracie Mendoza, Larry Simpson and Edwin Easley.
