Dear Tia,

We just got ANOTHER new boss, and my co-workers and I thought that he was going to be a good leader, nice and understanding.  Well, that lasted about 5 minutes before he turned into Jack the Ripper!  He started demanding and delegating but not giving any direction into how to get things done…plus he threatened that he wanted it done NOW!  There is no way that I can get everything done in a day, and when I try to explain how difficult it will be to do what he wants, all he says is, “make it happen!”  I don’t mind working hard and I used to love my job until this jerk was hired, so I don’t know what to do.  I really don’t want to quit.

Sick and Tired

Dear S & T,

Most new bosses will wait and see how things are done and get to know their employees before becoming a dictator.  However, there are those that are bent on making a name for themselves by attempting to fix everything in a month, and they do this at the expense of their employees.  There is increased stress and uncertainty, and this type of “my way or the highway” management style never succeeds.   Hang in there and give him a little time to discover that his way is not the only way.  Believe me, HIS boss will find out soon enough that he is a jerk and before you know it, you’ll have a new boss.  Bosses like this will implode in a very short while, so don’t quit, wait it out!
